GymAdapt: tap the exercise, watch the move
Every exercise in your GymAdapt plan has a looping demo video, downloaded so it plays even with bad gym Wi-Fi. Watch it once before your first set, and you know the movement. Free to start. Browse our exercise guides →
Exercise videos come in two very different forms. Demo videos show one exercise in a few seconds, so you can check the movement and then do your sets at your own pace. Follow-along classes have a coach doing a whole workout with you in real time. For lifting weights, demos are usually what you want.
Demo videos vs follow-along classes
| Demo videos | Follow-along classes | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Lifting with your own sets and weights | Cardio, HIIT, yoga, guided home workouts |
| Your pace | Yes | No, you follow the coach |
| Tracks weights | Usually | Rarely |
| Examples | GymAdapt, Fitbod, JEFIT, Alpha Progression | Nike Training Club, Apple Fitness+, Peloton |

How to use exercise videos well
- Watch the demo before your first set, not during it.
- Start light the first week while you learn the movement.
- Film one set from the side and compare it to the demo.
- If something hurts (not just burns), stop and swap the exercise.

What workout app has videos for every exercise?
GymAdapt has a demo video for every exercise in your plan (free tier; our app, iPhone only). Fitbod, JEFIT and Alpha Progression also have exercise demos.
What is the best free workout app with videos?
Nike Training Club is fully free for follow-along classes. GymAdapt's free tier includes demo videos for every lift.
Do the videos work without internet?
In GymAdapt, videos for your plan are downloaded ahead of time so they play in the gym. Class apps usually need a connection unless you download classes first.
Are follow-along classes good for building muscle?
They help, but progress stalls when you can't add weight. For muscle and strength, a plan with demos and tracked weights works better.
Can I try GymAdapt Pro free?
Yes. Code TRYFREE01 gives a month of Pro free on iPhone.
A coach, not just a counter, free to start
GymAdapt builds your plan and raises your weights from what you log. Free to start; code TRYFREE01 adds a month of Pro.
