GymAdapt: a free AI plan that you can actually run
Answer a few questions and the AI writes your weekly plan. Every exercise has a video, every set is logged in a tap, and for your first 30 days the app picks your next weight from what you lifted. Not happy with the plan? Make a new one (3 a week free) or ask the coach to change it.
A plan is only half the job. A list of exercises from a chatbot is a good start, but in the gym you also need to know how the exercise looks, what weight to use and when to go up. This guide covers the free AI planners, what each one gives you without paying, and how to get a plan that fits your week.

What to tell any AI planner
The plan is only as good as what you give it. Have these ready:
- Goal: build muscle, get stronger, lose fat while keeping muscle, or general fitness.
- Days and time: how many days a week, and how long each session can be.
- Equipment: full gym, dumbbells only, home rack, machines only.
- Experience: new, a few months in, or years of lifting.
- Injuries and no-go exercises: knee, shoulder, lower back, anything you won't do.
A prompt you can paste into ChatGPT
If you want to use a chatbot, this prompt gets a plan you can follow:
"Write a 4-week gym plan for me. Goal: build muscle. 3 days a week, 60 minutes. Full gym. I've lifted for 6 months. Avoid exercises that load my left knee. For each day list exercises, sets, rep range and rest time. Start each lift at a weight I could do for 2 to 3 more reps than prescribed, and tell me the rule for when to add weight."
Then copy the plan into a logger. The catch: the chatbot won't see your sets, so you have to apply the progression rule yourself every week. That is exactly the part an app like GymAdapt does for you.
Free plan vs free trial
A free plan keeps working after a week: GymAdapt's free tier, Planfit's AI plan, a chatbot plan, or free programs on Boostcamp. A free trial stops: Fitbod after 7 days, Gravl after 3 workouts. Trials are worth using to compare, but set a reminder before they bill.
Prefer paper? Our free 4-week beginner plan (PDF) is a solid starting point you can run with any logger.

Is there a free AI workout planner?
Yes. GymAdapt builds an AI plan free (up to 3 new plans a week) and runs it with videos, logging and 30 days of adaptive weights (our app, iPhone only). Planfit also builds a free AI plan, and ChatGPT can write one in text.
Can ChatGPT make me a workout plan?
Yes, and it can be a good one if you give it your goal, days, time, equipment, experience and injuries. It won't log your sets or adjust your weights in the gym, so pair it with a logger and a simple rule for adding weight.
What is the best free AI workout app?
GymAdapt has the most generous free tier for gym training: AI plan, unlimited workouts, a video for every lift and 30 days of adaptive weights. Planfit is the best free alternative, and it is also on Android.
Is Fitbod free?
No. Fitbod has a 7-day free trial, then costs $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year in the US. There is no permanent free tier.
How often should an AI planner change my plan?
Not too often. Running the same plan for 4 to 6 weeks lets you add weight and see progress. GymAdapt runs 6-week blocks with a built-in lighter week, then builds the next block from what you lifted.
A coach, not just a counter, free to start
GymAdapt builds your plan and raises your weights from what you log. Free to start; code TRYFREE01 adds a month of Pro.
Get GymAdapt on the App Store → Free to start. Pro is $4.99 a month or $24.99 a year (7-day free trial), or $79.99 once for lifetime. iPhone only. In English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Japanese.
