GymAdapt: the plan, the videos and the next weight, not just the log
Hevy and Strong are notebooks: great at recording what you did. GymAdapt also decides what you do next. It builds a plan for your goal, days and equipment, shows a video for every lift, logs each set and raises your weights when you are ready. Free to $24.99 a year. Get GymAdapt free on the App Store →
Hevy and Strong are the two most recommended workout trackers on Reddit and in gym forums, and searches for both are rising fast in 2026. They solve the same problem, logging sets, reps and weight quickly, but they make different trade-offs on price, free features and extras. Prices below are US App Store prices, checked October 2026.

Price: Hevy is cheaper on every plan
Hevy Pro costs $2.99 a month or $23.99 a year, and $74.99 buys it for life. Strong PRO costs $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $99.99 once. Over three years that is about $72 for Hevy yearly against about $90 for Strong yearly, and the lifetime gap is $25. If price decides it, Hevy wins.
Free version: Hevy gives you more
- Hevy free: unlimited workouts, up to 4 saved routines, 7 custom exercises and 3 months of progress charts, with ads.
- Strong free: unlimited workouts and 3 saved routines (templates). Most extras sit behind PRO.
- What the routine cap means: a 3-day plan fits in either free tier. A 4-day upper/lower split fits Hevy free but not Strong free. Five or six training days needs Pro on both.
Logging speed and design
Strong is famous for one thing: getting out of your way. The set table is plain, the timer starts itself, and there is almost nothing else on the screen. Hevy is just as quick once you know it, but it shows more: previous numbers inline, muscle maps, a feed tab and more settings. If you want zero distraction, Strong feels calmer. If you like data and a bit of social motivation, Hevy feels richer.
Social features
Hevy has a full social layer: follow friends, see their workouts, like and comment, and copy their routines. Strong has none. For many people the feed is the reason they stick with Hevy; for others it is noise.
Planning and progression
Neither app was built to plan your training. Both show what you lifted last time, so you can apply the double-progression rule yourself (hit the top of your rep range on every set, then add the smallest weight jump). Hevy now has Hevy Trainer in Pro: an algorithm that builds a program and raises the weight when you hit the top of the range on every set. Strong has no plan generator. If planning is what you want, see our best AI workout apps or try GymAdapt, which plans and progresses every lift. Try GymAdapt free →
