PureGym is the UK's biggest gym chain, with over 350 gyms, and "cancel PureGym membership" is one of the most searched gym questions in the country. Here are the exact steps from PureGym's own help centre (checked 29 October 2026), the timing rule that decides whether one more payment leaves your account, and the alternatives if you only need a break. How to cancel PureGym online, step by step
- Log in to the Member's Area on the PureGym website (it works in your phone's browser).
- In the Your Gym Pass section, select Manage.
- Choose Freeze or Cancel Your Membership.
- Follow the cancellation steps to the end and wait for the confirmation.
- Screenshot the confirmation screen and keep the confirmation email.
- After your next payment date, check your bank statement to make sure nothing further was collected.
When to cancel so you are not charged again
PureGym collects monthly payments by Direct Debit, and the cancellation has to be in before the next collection. Its help page gives two figures on the same page: "at least 4 working days" and "at least 5 working days before your next payment is due". Use the stricter one.
| Your next payment is on… | Cancel by the end of… (5 working days, no bank holidays) |
|---|---|
| Monday | the Monday before |
| Wednesday | the Wednesday before |
| Friday | the Friday before |
| the 1st of the month | about a week before, earlier if a bank holiday falls in between |
Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. If you are cutting it fine, cancel today rather than counting.
Which PureGym membership do you have?
| Membership | How to cancel | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly (Core or Plus) | Member's Area → Your Gym Pass → Manage → Freeze or Cancel | At least 4-5 working days before the next payment |
| Fixed-term | Contact PureGym Member Services | A fixed term is a contract for a set period, so check your agreement for what happens to the remaining term |
| Corporate / GymFlex | Through the company or scheme you pay (for GymFlex, by email to GymFlex) | PureGym cannot cancel it for you from the Member's Area |
| Paying by Direct Debit only | Cancel in the Member's Area first | PureGym's help centre explains the Direct Debit route too, but cancelling online gives you a confirmation |
Freeze instead of cancelling?
If you are injured, travelling or just need a break, PureGym lets you pause instead. Freezing locks in your current price (so no price rises) and means no joining fee when you come back.
- Core members: £6.99 a month while frozen, instead of your monthly fee.
- PureGym Plus members: up to 3 months in a 12-month period at no cost.
- How: Member's Area → Your Profile → Freezing or Cancelling, for up to three months.
- Moving house? You can transfer your home gym instead, under "Packages and Upgrades" in the Member's Area.
Common problems
- "I cancelled but was still charged." Check the date you cancelled against the payment date. If it was inside the 4-5 working-day window, that payment covers the month ahead. If it was outside, contact Member Services with your confirmation screenshot.
- "I can't find the cancel button." It sits under Freeze or Cancel Your Membership, reached from Manage in the Your Gym Pass section. Fixed-term and corporate memberships will not show the normal online cancellation.
- "I cancelled my Direct Debit at the bank." That stops the money, but cancel in the Member's Area too so your membership and account are closed properly.
Cancelling to save money? Keep the habit
Most people cancel because the gym got expensive or they stopped going. Either way, the habit is the thing worth keeping. Three cheap options: a day pass when you need the kit, a cheaper gym (see how to pay less for a gym membership), or home workouts with no equipment or a pair of dumbbells (three free home routines). GymAdapt (our app) rebuilds your plan for whatever kit you have, free. Get GymAdapt free on the App Store →
