How to cancel your JD Gyms membership (2026)

JD Gyms is no-contract at almost every club, but it asks for 30 days' notice, so the date you cancel decides whether one more payment goes out.

Short answer

Submit the cancellation request form on the JD Gyms website (Contact → Managing Your Membership → Cancellation). JD asks for 30 days' notice: if your next payment falls inside those 30 days, a final membership payment may still be collected. JD cancels the Direct Debit for you once it processes the request. You can also cancel by stopping the Direct Debit with your bank (banks can take up to 10 working days), in which case the membership ends the day before your next payment would have been due. Need a break rather than an exit? JD freezes free for up to 3 months in any 6 (14 days' notice). Keep training free with GymAdapt →

"Cancel JD gym membership" is searched around ten thousand times a month in the UK, mostly by people surprised by one last payment. The rules below are from JD Gyms' own FAQ (checked 29 October 2026). Leaving another chain? See cancelling PureGym and cancelling The Gym Group.

How to cancel JD Gyms online, step by step

  1. Go to the JD Gyms website and open Contact (the FAQs and Contact Us page).
  2. Under Managing Your Membership → Cancellation, open the cancellation request form.
  3. Fill it in with the details that match your membership (name, email, home gym).
  4. Submit it and keep the confirmation email.
  5. JD cancels the Direct Debit itself when it processes the request, if you have not already cancelled it with your bank.
  6. After your next payment date, check your statement.

The 30 days' notice, explained

JD says that 30 days' notice "helps us to complete the process" and that "if your next payment falls within the 30-day notice period, a final membership payment may still be collected in full". You pay monthly in advance, so that final payment covers your last month of access.

If you cancel…What usually happens
More than 30 days before your next paymentNo further payment; your membership ends at the end of the month you have paid for
Less than 30 days before your next paymentOne final monthly payment may be taken, covering one more month
By cancelling the Direct Debit at your bankMembership stays active until the day before your next payment would have been due, then ends. Banks can take up to 10 working days to process it

Your own membership terms decide the details. A few JD locations offer 12-month contracts; those follow the contract terms.

Cancelling to save money? Keep the habit

Most people cancel because the gym got expensive or they stopped going. Either way, the habit is the thing worth keeping. Three cheap options: a day pass when you need the kit, a cheaper gym (see how to pay less for a gym membership), or home workouts with no equipment or a pair of dumbbells (three free home routines). GymAdapt (our app) rebuilds your plan for whatever kit you have, free. Get GymAdapt free on the App Store →
